With 2021 half gone already, my musical life has returned to near full swing, although with some shifts in focus. Although live concerts are making their return (take a peak at my updated Appearances page!), online teaching, remote recording, and solitary composing still fill most of my days. Here are a few projects that I'm excited about.
In January, I launched my Transcription Of the Month Club (TOMClub) especially for string players. Subscribers have access to monthly transcriptions of great jazz performances, plus demonstration videos, backing tracks, and etudes. Check it out on Patreon or enjoy my first first few installments on YouTube.
In May, my International Space Orchestra and I contributed to a high-profile Amazon Prime Day Show (long form music video) featuring hip hop star, Kid Cudi. Go to Amazon to see the final result (available through July 17) or click here to see a short documentary about the ISO's participation in the project.
If I can get it all done, by the end of this year I will have completed a viola quartet; a solo violin piece; a piece for string quartet, accordion, and bassoon (for Vitamin Em); new arrangements of Debussy and Ron Carter; and a concerto for 3 violins and strings (for the San Jose Chamber Orchestra). Wish me luck!
In addition, I'm pleased to report that my first instructional videos have now been released on DC Music School — 2 volumes of lessons, tips, solos and transcriptions to help you wile away the lonely quarantined hours! Find those products here. -ep
